If you prefer your proverbs with pictures, we can’t recommend a better tonic than Palmira García Quintana’s website, where Quintana’s lately been sharing a series of illustrated ‘sayings.’ While some of these refranes-espanoles have apparent American equivalents — check the website — the parable that goes with the above drawing by Quintana certainly could use one. “This one is literally translated as ‘the goat always goes to the mountain,'” writes Quintana, a native of Gran Canaria now based in Madrid, “meaning that in the end people always do what they’re used to.” Plus ça change….
