New world’s record for Duchamp at Artcurial sale to benefit Doctors without Borders


(Updated, 23h30 6 June French time) PARIS – Artcurial’s sale of Marcel Duchamp’s 1910 – 11 65 x 51 cm oil on panel “Nu sur Nu”for Medecins Sans Frontieres (Doctors without Borders) not only netted nearly double the pre-sale estimate at 1,243,000 Euros ($1,417,020) to benefit the human rights organization (minus handling  charges) , it set a new world’s record for the sale of the Surrealist artist’s paintings at auction, announced Bruno Jaubert, the auction house’s director of Impressionist and Modern Art. The painting was donated to the NGO by Arnold Fawcus, a friend of the artist’s who published the first monograph on Duchamp. Artcurial mage courtesy of and copyright Artcurial.
